FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How do I book?
Bookings and inquiries are taken directly through Foxy Dogs Dog Training (registration below). The program has been developed by, and is run by Foxy Dogs. Once you have registered, you will receive an acknowledgement that a place is being held for you and your puppy. An invoice and further information will be emailed to you closer to the class start date.

How many people are in a class?
Maximum class size is 6 puppies so that all participants can get the attention and help they need during class. A 2nd class may be considered during the week at 3.30pm if the Saturday class books out quickly, however a minimum number of 4 participants would be required for the 2nd class to run.

How old can my dog be to attend Puppy Kindy?
Puppies will be accepted up to the age of 13 weeks old when they start their first class (which is actually the 2nd week of term), a 13 week old puppy would be just over 4 months old by the time they finish and would be ready for more challenging training at Beginner Group Dog Training classes.

What if my Puppy is over 13 weeks old as of the Puppy Kindy start date?
Foxy Dogs Dog Training also runs Beginner and Intermediate Group Dog Training classes on Beecroft Park in City Beach and Holyrood Park in West Leederville.

My puppy is still having their vaccinations, is this okay?
Yes! That’s why Foxy Dogs has secured an indoor facility. As your puppy will still be having vaccinations, it is not safe for them to be put down in public areas, especially grass and soil. When you attend class, you will be asked to take your shoes off at the door to ensure no nasty bugs are brought in on your shoes.

Do you train obedience/behaviours as well?
Yes! Behaviour training and concept training work really well when trained together to build both mechanical skills and emotional skills. You need to manage your expectations around your puppy’s capabilities, at this age it is very much about building their confidence, basic skills, your relationship with them and setting you up for success so you can continue training at home. Training is life-long, we don’t send our children to Kindy and then expect them to cope with everything life throws at them, we send them to Primary School, High School and perhaps University.

What is your relationship with Wembley Vet Hospital?
Wembley Vet Hospital rents Foxy Dogs Dog Training an indoor space to be able to run the Puppy Kindy so the puppies can be indoors in a sterile environment. As there are costs involved in hiring the space, a minimum number of 4 attendee’s are required for classes to run.

What do I need to bring?
The first class is puppy free, bring a pad, a pen and all your questions. Lessons 2,3,4 and 5 are with your puppy, bring a lead, poo bags, treats, a favourite toy, have your puppy on a collar or harness and as with my Beginner and Intermediate Group Dog Training Lessons, bring empathy, curiosity and a sense of humour.

How much are the classes?
$250 for 5 weeks, the first information class is puppy free, then classes 2, 3, 4 and 5 are with your puppy doing activities and training.

Why do I have to attend the Puppy free information class?
Even if you are an experienced dog owner, chances are that it’s been a while since you owned a puppy. The information session covers a huge amount of information, some of which you may know, some of which you will have forgotten and some of which might be new to you as the industry changes and we learn more about how dogs learn. We use this session to set you up for success, to be able to ask questions and to tackle puppy issues you might be experiencing (your issue could also be very relevant to someone else) so we can just focus on activities and training when they are at class.

What if I don’t think my puppy would be suited to Puppy Kindy, or I would prefer private tuition at home?
Some puppies are introverts, some have special considerations or you might just prefer a more private and personal approach. Foxy Dogs Dog Training also does one-on-one Preparing for Puppy consults and also Puppy Consults once you have your puppy where I can set you up with a detailed training plan, information can be found on the Training Services page.

Can I bring my family?
We don’t have lot of space at the facility where we are holding the classes. Two chairs will be provided per booking, two adults or an adult and child would work but we need the space for activity stations and for people to move around the area. When your dog is ready to progress, families are welcome to attend Beginner and Intermediate Group Dog Training classes which are held in local parks (Beecroft Park and Holyrood Park).

Will I get any training material?
Yes! After class, I’ll email you a run down of what we learnt in class that day along with reminders about homework so you can continue practicing through the week. You will also get a hand out following our first puppy free information session outlining what was discussed.
