Positive Reiforcement / Real-world solutions / Clear guidance for both you and your dog

How does a one-on-one home consult work and what is included?

Home consults are great for dogs with any issues or you might have a new puppy and want to set them up for success with strong behaviour foundations. It isn’t just for new dog owners, experienced dog owners will also benefit, dog training approaches and behaviour understanding continues to evolve as we learn more

There is an initial phone discussion where I gather a detailed history about your dog along with an understanding your concerns or struggles. I develop a detailed behaviour and concept based training plan (click here for information about concept training) using positive reinforcement, clear structure and practical training strategies.

I visit your home, we work through the training plan with demonstrations and hands on training, covering the ‘why are we doing this’ and the ‘how we do this’, along with what success will look like to help you identify positive change and any other information you may need based on your dog ownership experience.

We keep things practical, I show you how a lot of training can just be incorporated in your everyday life and the way you interact with your dog. I set achievable goals that require a couple of 3 minute sessions a day to train - you can do a training session while you wait for the kettle to boil for a cup of tea!

Consults are an hour, you should allow a little longer for the very first visit. I provide follow up support to see how you are going, answer any questions, help you over hurdles and tweak the training plan if needed.

Foxy Dogs Dog Training isn’t just about teaching dogs new skills. My approach of “coaching humans, training dogs” perfectly encapsulates my aim of helping owners understand, communicate and build a solid relationship with their dog based on trust and understanding. Once this is achieved, both yours and your dogs lives will be more enriched and enjoyable. Dogs are the most amazing, intelligent and loving creatures and there is so much we can do to give them choice and make their lives more fulfilling.

The key to successful training is a strong connection and relationship with your dog, we want your dog to see you as fun and someone they want to hang out with. I can guide and support you and get you on the path towards that relationship, it takes time, you need to be willing and able to put some work in from your end but you are going to love the journey.

One-on-One Training - Home consults
$180

Training general manners and skills training at your home including:

  • Recall

  • Loose lead walking

  • Calm (mat)

  • Polite greetings

  • Lunging

  • Barking

  • Crate and muzzle training

  • Assistance Dog Public Access Test (PAT) preparation training

  • Behavioural issues

  • Concept training

I provide training for every day behaviour issues for every day situations. As well as training behaviours, I incorporate concept training which strengthens emotional stability and the emotional coping abilities of dogs. Concept training teaches your dog a wide array of life skills or ‘building blocks’ that build confidence, resilience and their decision making skills, they are able to apply these skills in different and unfamiliar situations and make better choices by themselves.

There may be a few issues that need to be addressed and these can sometimes be quite complex. Learning happens in stages, we can’t expect your dog to jump from A to Z in one visit and I also don’t want to overwhelm you! We start by teaching your dog some key foundation skills that will start to help with issues you are having. As you start seeing the results, you may feel that this is all you need and that is perfectly okay, however you might want to challenge and continue improving the skills of your dog where I develop new, broader and more challenging training exercises that continue to build on those foundation skills, further strengthening your dogs skills and understanding.

Puppy consults
$180

Prior to puppy’s arrival consult
Are you ready for your puppy’s arrival? Have you thought of everything? I can help you get your home ready, talk to you about your puppy’s basic needs, assess your house set up, recommend equipment, provide advice about how to manage that first week and beyond, educate the family about do’s and don’ts and prepare you for issues to look out for and their solutions.

After puppy’s arrival consult
Once your puppy arrives, it can be a whirlwind! You might be wondering if you are doing the right thing, you might be having some initial struggles, you might be unsure about socialisation and what that actually is (as a tip, it is not socialising with other dogs!). Walk and Train
$130 - 45 minutes , package rates available

Life gets busy, everybody has something they need to do or somewhere to be, work, kids, elderly parents, you might currently have an injury or have other personal circumstances or commitments. There just aren’t enough hours in the day, let me help you. I can come when you are not there if I am able to get access to your yard, or come when you are there and will spend 45 minutes with your dog.

I will work on any behaviour struggles you are having and may do half of the session as foundation training in the back yard without distractions and half of it walking and training. Focus is on general manners, loose leash walking, recall (training on long lead) and making walks fun and engaging. If the opportunity presents itself we can work on dog/dog or dog/person reactivity, building on confidence, optimism and disengagement. If the preference is just for a 45 minute sniff/enrichment/exercise walk with no specific training requirements to break up your dogs day, we can do that as well. Tell me what you need.

We walk around your suburb so your dog becomes familiar with distractions and local challenges they may experience and if we can find a park, we’ll do some training there as well. No written training plan is provided for this service, but tell me what needs work and I’ll focus on that. I will keep you updated with your dogs progress and hand over the skills you need to carry on the training when you head out on a walk with your furry family member. We can do this by me walking with you once your dogs skills have been built or demonstrating the training at your home.

Walks are one-on-one, your dog has my full attention. All walks are on lead.
